Why Did Core IP Ownership Trap the Business?

The business depends on intellectual property it does not clearly control. That dependency may have been invisible while relationships were cooperative, but became critical when someone left, interests diverged or a transaction was attempted. The question is why essential business capability remained dependent on ownership outside the company's control.
